Equity Consciousness, Special Needs and Diversity
Equity is a consciousness; a way of educating that is informed by and situated in the belief that all students are innately wired for engagement, high intellectual performances, self-actualization and personal contribution. What should guide realizing “equity consciousness” is creating environments where students feel they belong and are valued; environments in which potential and strengths are intentionally and explicitly affirmed; motivation and aspiration are inspired; and students’ learning is mediated to nurture self-determination, agency and personal investment... all the considerations designated to “education for those labeled as gifted.”

Developing Mindfulness Practices in Leadership and in Teacher Education
This session examines how mindfulness is being applied in the areas of leadership and teacher education. What are the common features of both approaches and how are they applied? Lekshmy Sankar will share the ways that have helped her live in the moment and not stress about the future of a project. When you can experience life in the present, you begin to understand that not everything is a destination and truly enjoy managing a project. Richard Brown will share how to provide teachers with the resilience and self-care skills that can sustain them in the profession, and stem the high turnover numbers that are increasingly affecting public school education. Beyond learning to personally care for themselves, teachers can also learn to clearly and authentically communicate with their students in order to forge a climate of trust and respect. For example, teachers can learn to listen to their students mindfully and with compassion.

Gender Diversity: Creating the Tipping Point for Women in C-Suite, Entrepreneurship and on Boards

While companies continue to report their commitments to gender diversity; evidence shows little progress has been made. A thought provoking discussion at GlobalMinded shall not only explore solving pipeline and promotion issues in the corporate world but encourage everyone to look behind the scenes. Consider it a matter of championing, advocacy and effective use of privilege. Building Robots, Building Success
The session will open with an introduction to competitive robotics. The participants will then have an opportunity to construct a quick build robot and operate the robot using the remote control until through a maze type course in a competitive format. We will then work in small groups to learn about the design process in relations to a competitive game. The session will include a presentation on the use of this type of program in a classroom setting, or in an out of school setting. We will look at ways to involve girls, underserved students and even look at ways of including students who have not demonstrated an interest in the mechanics and programming used in robotics.

Do Test-Optional College Admissions Policies Actually Increase Access to College?
This roundtable addresses current debates about how to increase diversity in college admissions. Several high-profile institutions have recently adopted “test-optional” admissions policies, claiming that removing the SAT requirement from their application will allow them to admit a more diverse applicant pool. Others argue that this change will do little to address larger wealth-based inequities in higher education. Participants are invited to weigh the pros and cons of test-optional admissions policies and brainstorm the most effective solutions for creating a truly diverse talent pipeline.

In this session, participants will learn: 1. How biological intelligence (BI) and AI use the same neurotransmitters to enhance learning or hack minds; 2. The learning system: how the brain learns and simple ways to improve learning; 3. How education apps are using AI; 4. Four main areas where AI will impact learning the most; 5. A simple guideline: how to select the right technology to enhance students’ BI; 6. How to use the Learning Roadmap to identify participants’ teaching practices and where they need to focus next to fully take advantage of AI technology.

Not all educational technology is the same, effective or backed up by evidence. But the ed tech that is based upon sound theories and demonstrates evidence can be powerful learning tools. Although we may think that there is a democratization of learning through cost-efficient apps, those apps are useless if they don’t work and you don’t know how to use them. Personalized Learning to Build a Prenatal to Career Superhighway
All too often research findings in early childhood education do not make it to the classroom level until well beyond the shelf-life of the discoveries. This session focuses on a new approach that eliminates the delay by creating a research/practice network among researchers and early childhood education teachers focused on co-creation of research projects driven by the challenges teachers identify in the learning environment. The International Center for Educational Research and Practice (iCERP) is a new collaborative between and among educators, researchers and business leaders to engage in the intersectionality of thought in three key areas: Early Childhood Education, Personalized Learning and building a Career Superhighway. This panel will take on the topic of addressing how a research/practice partnership will move the needle on closing the achievement gap before it opens by creating a prenatal to grade three continuums.
